Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Book Review

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban is the third book in the Harry Potter series written by J.K. Rowling. It picks up just before school starts again. A dangerous murder is on the loose, Harry runs away from the Dursley's and something fishy is going on that to Harry it seems like everyone knows except him

This book is mind blowing. It steps the series up in every sense of the word. This book takes a darker approach as the characters mature in age, it has less coincidences and more clever ways of situations happening. This book introduces the two best characters in the series: Professor Lupin and Sirius Black. It is also not just the main characters that get a lot of development, particularly Severus Snape that advances in development.

The book has a nice ending that could've ended the series with a few tweaks, but Rowling decided to keep the series going. Just a bonus insight, because Harry is in his third year, he starts taking electives and it gives a fresh and unique addition to the story.

This book is so much better than both it's predecessors

I'm going to give Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

A+

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - Book Review

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the follow up to the original Harry Potter novel written by J.K Rowling. In this story Harry is rescued by Ron, Fred and George after being trapped at the Dursley's. However, something evil is lurking at Hogwarts, and Harry, Ron and Hermione are determined to find out.

This book, while fantastic, for sure has more flaws than the first book does. Lets start with the positives first. This book is pretty fun and a yet again, a quick and easy read. Without a doubt it does have a certain level of suspense. And one thing that most of these books have is that they all get to a certain point where you can't stop reading and just have to finish it.

My flaws are the chapter 'Aragog' was pretty silly and ridiculous. My biggest flaw is that it is really childish. And for pete's sake, I thought the first one was childish. So many conveniences that, I'm sorry wouldn't happen, just no. The ending has the same flaw that I have with the first one. Without spoiling it, I will just say one person ties up all the loose ends in a nice little bow.

Despite all my flaws, this is a pretty good book

I'm going to give Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

B+

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Book Review

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a novel that everyone ever has read. It is written by J.K. Rowling. It launched the Harry Potter series. Do I really need to explain the plot? NO!!!

This book starts off slow but manages to remain interesting in a innocent non violent kind of way. The writing is simple but it makes it easier and faster to read. I think this book can be read in about 7-9 hours depending on your reading abilities.

The characters in this book are very well developed for the most part, I think Hermione's character had a sudden and abrupt change and it took me out for a little bit, but for younger readers they probably won't notice or even care.

The one flaw I have with this book is that it is a little childish. This is however, a small flaw as it is Harry's first year at Hogwarts but that definitely does not excuse how easy it is for Harry, Ron and Hermione to get away with things. It made more sense in the later books but as for now it does seem a little weird.

Overall Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is a great children's book

I'm going to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Movie Review

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a sequel to the 2012 Marvel film. This follows Spider-Man (Peter Parker) struggling to have a relationship with his girlfriend, Gwen Stacey (played by Emma Stone) after her fathers death. Meanwhile the new villain Electro springs onto the scene and Spider-Man is faced with a new challenge. I will not spoil the other two villains in the film but if you have seen the trailer you know but it would be better not to know even though die-hard comic book fans or even people who watched the original trilogy would know... but just in case.

This movie is extremely fun. It's a very funny and light-hearted movie with a witty Spider-Man portrayed by Andrew Garfield. The action is pretty cool and the opening scene is absolutely incredible.

There is one villain in the film that really bothered me because he is really goofy but I soon accepted the fact that the point of this movie is that it is goofy. Emma stone was brilliant in  this movie and she had nice hair. There are some supporting characters in the film that had me rolling on the floor laughing because of the dialogue that comes out of their mouths.

Dane DeHaan's performance as Harry Osborn was really good and I'm a big fan of Dane, I even leant over and told my friend when he came on screen that he was going to be brilliant. Emma Stone was of course brilliant however there was one particular scene in the first act of the film, where her dialogue was well written in a way but what she was saying didn't make any sense and she reminded me a little bit of Pepper Potts in the first half of Iron Man 3 (a little b****y) however aside from that one scene she was really good. My favourite part of the film was the back and forth between Peter and his Aunt May (Sally Field), that was where the comedy in the film was it's strongest, that and the dialogue between Spider-Man and whoever he is talking to. Loved Emma's hair.

If you can accept the cheesy parts in the film like I did and realise it is a comic book movie (which unfortunately some people I know couldn't get past it) and I really enjoyed the film for what it was trying to be. I swear if this film came out in the late 80's it would have been among one of the best superhero films of all time. The pacing was amazing, it was 2 hours and 20 minutes and went by faster than The LEGO Movie (which I really liked but I'm just saying as an example). I really like Emma Stone, she was really pretty and so funny!

And I don't like how in Australia the official title of the film is The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Rise of Electro. I feel it is a misleading title because unlike 1989's Batman, the central point of the film is not the villain and this film for sure focuses on Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

I'm going to give The Amazing Spider-Man 2

In other news my theatre of course showed the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past and I am dying to see this film, it looks amazing and the characters effects look a lot more cleaned up since we last saw them in a good film which was X-Men 2. Emma had really nice hair. Although Mystique, Magneto and Xavier was in First Class but for the most part we haven't had a good modern X-Men film since the first 2 directed by Bryan Singer so yeah dying to see it!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier - Movie Review

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger and The Avengers. It picks up after The Avengers and Steve Rogers is starting to cope with modern times with the help from others. However (without spoiling too much) something is happening with S.H.I.E.L.D meanwhile The Winter Soldier comes after Captain America.

Black Widow is a great partner for Cap and Nick Fury is an awesome side character. The Winter Soldier is officially my favourite Marvel villain from all the movies  he is awesome and has such a menacing feel to him.

My gripes with the film are the first 30 minutes is a little slow (following an awesome action scene) and The Winter Soldier is under used a little. Other than that this is a great film with terrific action and a great story with intense dialogue spritzed into the fighting scenes. This movie beats Iron Man 3 (in more ways than one) with the timing of the humor better used  and less (for the better)

This movie is my second favourite Marvel movie

I'm going to give Captain America: The Winter Soldier
