How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 22 'The End of the Aisle' - Episode Review

The second last episode of How I Met Your Mother titled 'The End of the Aisle' takes place '30 minutes before the wedding'. Robin and Barney are both getting cold feet and are questioning whether they should get married. On Barney's side he is writing his vows when he realises Marshall and Lily never stuck to about 80% of their own vows. On Robin's side she doesn't know if Barney is the right person and Ted contemplates whether to tell her about the locket or not.

I really loved this episode. As I have previously stated I will not spoil anything until my big spoiler filled series review. The acting in this episode stands out. It is amazing. This is a very dramatic episode with some classic Marshall and Stinson comedy.

This is one of my favourite episodes in the series, I really loved this episode.

American Hustle - Movie Review

American Hustle stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner and Jennifer Lawerance. It is set in the late 70’s and is about Christian Bale who plays Irving Rosenfeld a con man who sort of falls in love with Amy Adams while at the same time becomes partners with her at conning other people, funny thing is Christian Bale is married, to Jennifer Lawerance who is a complete nutcase. In this review I won’t be able to explain how awesome Jennifer Lawerance’s character is in this movie. Jennifer Lawerance isn’t in the movie for too long but the parts she is in are the stand out parts of this film. So long story short, Bradley Cooper who plays an FBI agent catches the pair when he attempts to catch them conning him but he sort of falls in love with Amy Adams which means he kind of wants to help them even if it is only Amy Adams character he cares about. So he makes a deal with them to con a bunch of politicians into taking bribes in exchange for like no charges or something like that, and one of those politicians is Jeremy Renner who plays the mayor but Christian Bale doesn’t really want to con him because they sort of strike up a friendship while they try to get closer to him. Sound confusing, well it really isn’t it is actually pretty well told.

I have to touch on the acting. The acting in this movie is probably the best acting I have seen in film all year. Christian Bale is oscar worthy along with Jennifer Lawerance and heck even Bradley Cooper was phenomenal. There is also an awesome cameo towards the latter half of the movie which like me, might take you a second to realize who he is and then you’ll be like oh damn it’s that guy.

Really the first half of this movie in terms of direction, some people have called it a rip-off of a Scorcese film, which I didn’t really think it is. I thought it was more of an homage to the talent and style that is Martin Scorcese. However I really congratulate the director David O’Rusell because if he is copying off of Scorcese, I mean hey, he did a pretty good job in my opinion, I mean I just watched The Departed like 2 days ago and that’s why I think I noticed a lot of striking similarities in the dialogue.

Ok, I would be an idiot if I didn’t mention the soundtrack in this movie by Danny Elfman. Oh my word it is so good, it is easily the best soundtrack of 2013. I was like bobbing my head in some scenes it was great.

So overall the acting is great, the soundtrack is phenomenal, the story flows really well and the directing by David O’Rusell is excellent, I really hope the academy recognizes him at the Oscars along with this movie in general. So as for the whole 94% on rotten tomatoes over rated thing. I don’t think it is I think that it is totally justified, and some people have said that the movie focuses more on the characters than it does on the story, I completely disagree, as complicated as the plot sounds once it gets going it really flows nicely and it is a 2 hour 20 minute movie giving time for both the characters and the story, I don’t think it should’ve have been shorter, I don’t think they should have focused less on the characters I think it was done brilliantly.

I'm going to give American Hustle
A+

Man Christian Bale got fat in this movie, goes from being super skinny in The Machinist, to super buff in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, to skinny in The Fighter, to buff again in The Dark Knight Rises and fat in American Hustle. That guy is committed. I hear he ate nothing but an apple and a can of tuna a day to get skinny for The Machinist, that’s insane.

The Hunger Games - Movie Review

The Hunger Games is a film based off the book written by Suzanne Collins and I love those books (which Lachlan will review because he called them before me #damnit) and I will review the 4 films when they all come out.

I will start off by saying I was very disappointed by this movie. Jennifer Lawerance plays Katniss Everdeen and think it was a brilliant casting, as a matter of fact I really don't have any issues with the casting. This film is a little boring. In the book the stuff that doesn't involve The Hunger Games is really interesting but in this film it just comes across as boring.

When we get to the games it is pretty cool however they have a lot of shaky cam action scenes so they could keep the film PG-13 (or M in Australia) but it detracts from the film.

Another thing is that there isn't much time for character development. This is because in the book the character of Katniss Everdeen is written in first person.

In My Opinion The Hunger Games is a big disappointment
I'm going to give The Hunger Games

Mortal Kombat (2011) - Video Game Review

Mortal Kombat (2011) also known as 'Mortal Kombat 9' is a reboot of the Mortal Kombat series. In the game, the events of armageddon has just ended and Shao Kahn has beaten Raiden. But just before Raiden could be finished he sent a message through his mind to his younger self during the first Mortal Kombat tournament. He sent it to warn him about the future.

This game is amazing, the graphics are awesome and the fighting is unbelievable. I can say that this is the best fighting game I have ever played. The characters are great (Kano ftw) and the story is pretty cool

Scream - Movie Review

Wes Craven directs Scream. The horror film that resurrected the Slasher film genre while also making fun of the cliche's of horror movies.

This movie is about a killer named 'Ghostface'. Who kills teenagers usually after calling them or scaring them in some way. The clever thing about this film is that it gives you the obvious suspects and you automatically know it's not them even though you can't think of anyone else.

The reveal of the killer will always be my favourite part of the film (well maybe that or the opening scene) because it left viewers guessing right up until The Killer had to admit it because they were so clever no one could guess it.

I love Scream. It is one of my favourite horror films ever.

City Lights (1931) - Movie Review

City Lights is a silent film directed by, written and starring Charlie Chaplin. This film depicts The Tramp and his everlasting struggle to make ends meets.

This film is a classic and I gotta say I expected to hate this film but I really enjoyed this film and I found it pretty funny, in my opinion this is the dawn of comedy in movies.

There is not much to this film in terms of plot as I mentioned it is about Charlie Chaplin (The Tramp) basically living his life and the difficulties that he makes humour out of. He also makes a new best friend and possibly a romance.

On IMDB this film is ranked the #34 best film of all time (as of now) and I have to say I think that is a little overrated. Now City Lights is the only Chaplin film I have seen but I really want to watch the others and I will review them when I see them.

Overall I really enjoyed City Lights
I'm going to give it a grade some people might find too low but it is a lot higher than most comedies
I'm going to give City Lights

How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 21 'Gary Blauman' - Episode Review

Going into this episode I thought with only 3 weeks left this is going to be the last 'filler' episode of the series.

Well I was wrong, this is the last 'joke heavy' episode as far as I can tell (however the preview to The End of the Aisle may say other wise) because the last 2 episodes really need to deliver a ton of story.

The plot of this episode is that Gary Blauman arrives at the wedding and each person recounts their experiences with Gary Blauman and whether they want him to leave or stay.

This episode is really funny and while some say that detracts from the story (which is not what you want to happen in the 3rd last episode) I say it what they were going for because in my opinion they will be either very joke heavy on the next one and story and emotion heavy on the finale or just go story and emotion for both because that's what we need with so many loose ends to tie.

Speaking of loose ends a sub plot in this episode never gets resolved I won't spoil it or anything though.

Overall I really enjoyed this episode so far the show is going out with a bang

How I Met Your Mother Season 9 Episode 20 "Daisy" - Episode Review

The 4th last episode of How I Met Your Mother reveals a lot about the past season and the future beyond the show.

This episode sees Marshall, Ted, Barney, Ranjit and The Karate Kid's very own Billy Zabka trying to figure out who Lily went with and why after she stormed out on their big fight. Meanwhile Robin's mother has flown in for the wedding and Robin is realising Barney is very similar to her father.

Like I said this episode brings Lily's story full circle and for the most part Marshall however this season you could tell Lily was up to something and I predicted the twist that came in this episode about 4 minutes before they revealed it however that didn't keep me any less off the edge of the seat as the "Mosby Boys" try to crack the case.

I can't wait to see what happens with only 3 episodes left and I will of course be reviewing them spoiler free and have a huge series spoiler filled review not long after my series finale review.

Despite seeing the twist coming I still love this episode

The Simpsons Movie - Movie Review

I hate this film!

The Simpsons movie is a film adaption of the extremely popular TV show The Simpsons. Before I start, I must say the first 10 seasons of The Simpsons I will group and say is my favourite cartoon ever. The rest of the seasons get worse and worse.

This film is horrible . The Simpsons is a very simple show and I understand it would be totally boring for a movie to do that but my point is this shouldn't have been made.

MILD SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

It gets really bad when they show Bart's penis and kill Dr. Nick and GAHHH!!! Stupid film. The show gets worse and worse and the movie sunk it even more.

END OF SPOILERS!!!

For some reason a lot of people like this movie and I suspect these are fans of the newer seasons

I hate this film!!

Batman Begins - Movie Review (Jonathan's Classic Corner)

Batman Begins is a reboot of the Batman franchise and after the colonoscopy that was Batman & Robin I was ready for this movie. It is perfect in every single way.

The film starts out with Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) training with the League of Shadows and during this we get a back story to his parents death and how he got to where he is today. He transforms all his anger into becoming Batman.

Christian Bale is the only Batman/Bruce Wayne for me. It is a flawless performance, the way he uses his anger and fear seems so real and his transformation into Batman does not seem forced at all but instead feels perfectly timed and I like the voice, that's all I'll say.

There were five other performances that I absolutely adored in this film and they are: Liam Neeson, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Cillian Murphy and Gary Oldman.

One of the most overlooked performances in cinema history is the brief screen presence of Thomas Wayne played by Linus Roach.

As I have stated before there are few films I call perfect
And this is one of those films and it leads perfectly into the sequel.

Batman Begins without a doubt gets an

The Way Way Back Movie Review

The Way Way Back stars Liam James (even though they put the big stars on the poster) and he plays 14 year old Duncan a boy who is on summer break and goes to a beach house with his mother (Toni Colette) and her boyfriend (Steve Carell) who is not a nice guy.

During this seemingly awful summer, he meets Suzanna (AnnaSophia Robb) who's parents are friends of Steve Carell are staying in the house next door. He also meets Owen (Sam Rockwell) at a water park and it quickly becomes an insane summer.

While I know this film is not for everyone, this film is perfect for me. It is one of the few films I have seen in my life that I can call 'perfect'. The dialogue is so real and not at all Hollywood-ized. The chemistry between all these characters is awesome and it is my type of humour so I found this film hilarious.

The Way Way Back is one of my favourite films of 2013 and of all time.

Escape From Tomorrow - Movie Review

Escape From Tomorrow is a film that angered me to my core. This movie STOOOINNNNKSSSS!!! (credit for 'stoinks' goes to Schmoes Know). I hate this movie.

It is about a family that takes a trip to disney land and s**t ensues. This movie is awful. I respect the idea because it was filmed in Disneyland without their rights so I respect that, everything else sucks!

The end of the movie is the worst ending to a film I have seen in my life. I hate this so much. It is one of the worst movies of 2013 and of all time.

This movie is so gross too (more on the end as well). I need to talk about the end but you should not care.

*SPOILERS BELOW*

The main character finds out that instead of turkey it is emu that they are selling at Disney Land. So he gets... cat flu. What the f**k!!!??? Yeah and he dies! Vomiting and chronic -- nope too disgusting to go on. Then there's these creepy girls and an old lady or man. DUMB!!!

Never See this film

Dallas Buyers Club - Movie Review

Dallas Buyers Club stars Oscar winners Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto. This film is about Ron Woodroof a man in the 1980s who is diagnosed with HIV's and him and Jared Leto set up a club to cure other Aid's victims.

That is just the beginning of the plot because that is all I will say. The performances in this movie are stunning and a very under rated performance by Jennifer Garner also elevates this film in my opinion.

The transformation from despicable Ron to the tagline 'Dare to Live' Ron is seen throughout the film, however this is not the case for Jared Leto's performance.

I really liked this film and I believe it is worth seeing especially to catch up on Oscar season. The only con in my opinion is that it slows down a little.

I will give Dallas Buyers Club

Blue Jasmine - Movie Review

Academy Award Winner, Cate Blanchett stars as Jasmine in the critically acclaimed Woody Allen movie. Blue Jasmine is a movie that goes back and forth between Jasmine's past and present and how her life has changed (without spoilers) since certain events happened in her life.

Jasmine is played amazingly by Cate Blanchett and she totally deserved her Oscar. Sally Hawkins (who plays Jasmine's sister) is also fantastic along with Alec Baldwin and Sally Hawkins boyfriend "Chilli".

The movie starts awesome and has an awesome ending, even though it was a little cheap it was still pretty incredible and something not many people could have seen coming.

It is an excellent movie

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - Movie Review

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug stars Martin Freeman returning as Bilbo Baggins, the brave little Hobbit from the Shire continuing his adventure however in this one we have Orcs, Elves, Rings and a Dragon.

This movie is 2 hours and 45 minutes and for the most part it is interesting. There is however one part (without spoiling anything) involves somewhere were a group elves live (not sure if it's Rivendale or not, my bad) and the scene last about 10 minutes however it is followed up by one of the best scenes in fantasy films ever.

The dragon Smaug is amazing (voiced by the talented Benedict Cumberbatch), he looks awesome with top notch special effects with everything to do with Smaug and his lair.

There are some awesome new characters in this movie however Legolas was my favourite character in Lord of the Rings but he seemed a little stale in this film.

I really liked this movie however it is the Batman (1989) compared to The Dark Knight (The Dark Knight being Lord of the Rings

Despite it's flaws it is a fun film

Ride Along - Movie Review

Ride Along is the first film I have seen in 2014. It stars Ice Cube and in my opinion the very funny Kevin Hart. The plot is that Kevin Hart wants to propose to Ice Cube's sister and blah blah he has to prove himself blah blah they go on a Ride Along.

This movie is not very good at all. The dialogue at times is average while at other times it is laughably bad. Kevin Hart is mildly funny buy his character is a little too dumb. Ice Cube is dry and boring and together they make a pretty bad film.

The action is dumb and there is one scene that entertained me but apart from that I don't like this movie at all, what a way to kick of my 2014 movie watching season.

The Wolf of Wall Street - Movie Review

The Wolf of Wall Street is yet another film directed my personal favourite director Martin Scorcese. He has directed some of my favourite movies such as The Departed, Goodfellas, Raging Bull, Taxi Driver etc.

This movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jordan Belfort a man who ran a stock market and not everything he did was legal. The movie also stars Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie.

This film is amazing. It is funny, it is perfectly acted and directed by Martin Scorcese. Hopefully this film will be remembered as a classic comedy.

The editing and cinematography stands out and is an amazing aspect of this film.

12 Years a Slave - Movie Review

12 Years a Slave stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as Solomon Northup a free man who was kidnapped into slavery in the 1800's. This story documents his 12 Years as a slave which was later made in to an autobiography.

This is a harrowing movie that will live with most people for a very long time. This is not an easy film to watch because the performances make this film seem so real. Mainly Chiweitel Ejiorfor, Lupita Nyong'o and Michael Fasbender.

The soundtrack by Hans Zimmer is amazing and adds so much more to an already incredible film.

I will give 12 Years a Slave an A+

Gravity - Movie Review

Gravity stars Sandra Bullock who plays Dr. Ryan Stone and George Clooney who play Matt Kawolski. Gravity is my favourite film of 2013.

In Gravity, Ryan Stone is on her first space mission while Matt is retiring. However, something goes wrong and debris flies by and causes chaos leaving Ryan and Matt stranded in space. From there, Gravity is a 90 minute thriller that will leave you on the edge of your seat from beginning. This movie does not turn off it is so exciting every second.

I don't want to spoil anything else I will just say this movie is amazing in every single way. I recently picked up the Blu-Ray and it looks phenomenal. Groundbreaking visuals.

Gravity is my favourite film of 2013, Sandra Bullock and George Clooney are amazing and the Oscars are tomorrow so fingers crossed!
